I don't want to be seduced again by consumerism but Dell LCDs are on bloody sale on the street - USD840 for 1920x1200 24". As researched earlier, the 20" model was said to be having the same panel as the Apple Cinema (both from Philips). I would guess it's the same for the 24 and 30 inches babes. However, note that even though with the same panel, the internal circuits might make a difference between the two in neck-to-neck comparison (from CNet).

For me (i.e. `mine'), I cleaned up my PC and did a bit of desktop decoration for 4 days straight. Ha, silly? Perhaps, but it costs me nothing except the minimal on house electricity and the broadband. I am in search of a cheap life style for retirement preparation. Besides, I was annoyed by my PC's sluggish behavior for the past few months (no, not yet Linux, still XP, even though I like the penguin) and decided to take a look of what's under the hood. Well, this usually happens after years of installing useless software on your PC, with each one of them setting up several useless background tasks cumulatively. (The fact: I didn't expect 4 full days as I intended to do a Drupal upgrade here plus some CSS corrections as well, originally...)

Actually, the linux wget utility also understands it.

The above obfuscated URL points to IP 66.94.230.47, i.e. one of the www.yahoo.com's servers.

I wouldn't notice this not until a phishing mail to my mailbox uses this technique. Of course, that mail didn't point me to yahoo but something else.

I used to go to a small cafe nearby the office for checking personal e-mails at lunch. Well, not all companies allow staffers to use webmail in the office. As usual, those were Windows PC powerful enough for you to play 3D games. Actually, it was just too powerful so a lot of patrons just went ahead to install their own messenger software, toolbars, etc. It didn't make me feel comfortable because there might be spyware or keyloggers installed as well!

I am impressed by the folks in Taiwan. It was produced by DV hobbyists but quality surpasses those boring TV cuts here in HK. The choice of music is excellent from my point of view - it gives the fireworks a grand mood that beyond just fireworks, but really an event of history. The plot of the fireworks is also not to be undermined. The building was effectively transcended to a giant structure of symbolic representation. It's not fireworks, but a peom of lights. (Well, although can be said just another advertisement from Sony, but still, an excellent one!)

I called my broadband customer service today. As usual, it was a sweet female voice broadcasting the latest promotional offer. It was so sweet that I almost wanted to marry the girl immediately, even though it was just a machine talking. After pressing thru a few numbers, I reached a human operator. As usual, s/he was so courteous that I almost broke into tears. They were so friendly that they won't let me go with just a simple bye bye because they have to complete all the due diligence in the handbook - just to make sure that there is no room for complaint. As usual, as usual.
